Knowing how to navigate Instagram Reels puts a brand at a huge advantage nowadays. In a not dissimilar way to hips, quite simply, the numbers don’t lie.

Since embracing Reels as part of their social media strategies, many of our clients (including our own channels) have seen an 80+% increase in engagement. So how can brands use Instagram Reels to their benefit?
Much like everything on social media nowadays, the Reels algorithm prioritises content the viewer will see, based on their interests and what they’re most likely to engage with. The most important considerations are:
Whose posts are you interacting with? If you frequently like, share or comment on someone’s content, you’re more likely to see their content or content like it in future and their posts in your feed.
What do you like? If you engage with foodies then the algorithm will continue to (ahem) serve that type of content to you.
When do you engage? Instagram will even look at when you’re online and how often you scroll the app, and then pick and choose what and when to prioritise Reels on your feed, accordingly.
An important aspect to note is that the Instagram algorithm will de-prioritise content that’s visibly from other platforms (enter TikTok, stage left) or low-quality.
In a nutshell, if your short-form video content is entertaining, interesting and of good enough quality, the algorithm is more likely to push it up the feed and recommend them in the reels tab.
