Developing your personal career brand

Our team is full of individual personalities – we encourage everyone to develop their personal career brands to help them celebrate their achievements during their time at Little Red  and take this forward wherever they go in the future.

This was one of the main topics of conversation at our annual agency PR summit, held this year at the glorious Durslade Farmhouse in Somerset.

Everyone knows what their unique selling points are, but it can be tricky to relay these on our individual social media channels. Even PRs can be shy sometimes!

It wasn’t that long ago that there was no WIFI in your local Costa Coffee, no instant messaging and the only way you’d get a new job was by turning up with CV in hand hoping to catch the manager on their shift. But, thanks to social media, you can now demonstrate your personality and hard work to anyone in a matter of seconds, so how do you manage your brand where eyes can be watching your every move? In today’s blog, we have rounded up our top tips to achieve the perfect personal and work balance online.

Create one consistent career brand look

Make sure your company is tagged in all of your bios and you have one clear message across all social platforms for where you work. For example, if you have an interest in interiors, let people know! Understand the values you are adding to others and use that to create engaging content. Keeping your message focused on your target audience – this will be easier to create content and will determine how others define you. And live your brand every day; if you go to a new London hot spot, make sure you post it on Instagram and tag your location.

Which channels should you focus on?

Working in PR our team are all engaged across Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. What’s important is that you are consistent and you have enough time to regularly update. So, be honest. If you only have time to do one well go with that.

Be yourself

Don’t pretend to like something just because your audience might think it’s cool. Be genuine and true to yourself. You will find you are more passionate about topics that you genuinely care about.

Have a bank of inspiration

Instagram is full of inspiring people all with different genres. Make sure you follow and engage with those who push you. But at the same time, don’t be swayed by what others are posting – see above!

What do you want to achieve?

Do you have personal and work goals? How do these align? Make it clear to yourself and your channel what your goal is and that you are working towards achieving them. Often when people see that you are developing your skills, people will contribute and offer advice on how to complete them.
