Saturday saw our second visit to this season’s London Fashion Week for quintessentially British, Temperley London’s ready-to-wear show. Held in the heart of the fashion capital, the doors of 180 The Strand were thrown open to the public for the second time in LFW’s history. Rather than being exclusive to the elite, those with a passion for fashion are now able to purchase tickets to select catwalks. Heading behind-the-scenes of the London Fashion Week Hub to enjoy fashion-related talks and an experiential discoveryLAB space, the public are now able to get under the skin of fashion month.
Whilst the rest of fashion months looks a year ahead with this season showcasing AW20, Alice Temperley ripped up the rule book with a summer-centric ready to wear collection. Implementing the much discussed see now, buy now fashion model, the runway was awash with wearable spring looks. Tried and tested by the likes of Burberry and Rebecca Minkoff, the model allows audiences (both on and offline) to purchase the collection showcased immediately afterwards. Whilst this structure has received some scrutiny from fashion critics, it can only mean positive things from a sustainability point of view. Being evolved up until just before the show, the collections are guaranteed to be bang on the money in terms of the season’s trends. The result? Minimal waste.
This season’s Temperley London collection looked to ‘40s nostalgia and jazz music for inspiration. Known for her stunning, shimmering occasion wear, Alice’s signature style influenced the range. Embellished summer dresses and brightly coloured resort wear was presented in full length silhouettes and accompanied by matching accessories. In ready-to-wear style, stilettos had been swapped out for beach sandals and dramatic looks had been exchanged for maxi dresses and jumpsuits – perfect for Temperley London’s hometown’s unpredictable summer weather!
