Mid-September, under typical circumstances, sees the start of the design season, with Focus/20 being one of London Design Festival’s premiere events. However, throw a little 2020 into the mix and there’s nothing “typical” about it… Working with Victoria + Albert Baths, Little Red was challenged to organise a virtual event to mark Focus/20. This event needed to home in on how, considering the year’s events, the role of the bathroom has changed to being a place of refuge and sanctuary from the everyday – it is, after all, the only room of the house where it’s seen as acceptable to have a lock on the door.
To make this happen we set out with the intention of attracting 10 established journalists, influencers, and interior designers to the event. As such we knew just the people to call to draw in a crowd and so brought on Amy Moorea Wong to host a discussion, along with interiors icons Jordan & Russell of 2LG Studio. As well as this, we sent press a package including some luxurious bath goodies to enjoy.
We managed to attract close to fifty attendees, absolutely smashing our target. This came in no small part to the charisma and vivacity of our host and speakers. Also, the gifting clearly went down a treat, with several key attendees posting their appreciation on social media.
Throughout the discussion Jordan and Russell walked us through everything we needed to know about bathroom design – Sharing how a white bathroom could be easily reinvigorated into a more personal and playful space through introducing colour onto the ceiling; and how using curved objects, suggesting Victoria + Albert’s Amiata bath, one could design a bathroom that flowed better, leading to peace of mind and thus assisting in helping one’s mental health when needing to retreat from the mundane.
The talk then concluded with a healthy Q&A discussion, showing just how engaged everyone was throughout the event. We even learnt of some of the wilder purchases made by 2LG throughout lockdown, including their opinions on rubber ducks and a certain cactus sponge body scrub…
Overall, this fabulous event attracted some key names from the interiors world as well as national press such as The Daily Express, YOU Magazine and The Telegraph.
