meet the client: stuart george, cambridge audio

For our latest ‘Meet the Client’ blog, we caught up with CEO of legendary British brand, Cambridge Audio: Stuart George. A man who embodies the company’s ‘Made by Music’ tagline – also the name of its must-hear podcast – and also fits a lot of eco-thinking into his work day. Tune in and read on…

What’s your responsibility at Cambridge Audio?

As CEO, I run the day to day of the business, which means trying to ensure that every colleague can deliver their best for the whole team!

What led you to the brand?

I was previously working in an oil company, to my great shame. As a massive music fan and avid listener, the chance to work at Cambridge Audio was irresistible.

What’s a typical working day for you?

There’s practically no such thing! I could be working from home, on calls; in the office doing interviews and meetings, or travelling to shows and supporting our international teams.

What’s your proudest work moment?

I don’t think I’ve had it yet!

What’s your most memorable career moment?

Meeting Brian Eno last year is definitely up there; we had lunch to discuss Cambridge signing up to support his eco-music charity, EarthPercent. I truly believe the climate crisis is the biggest challenge facing humanity so we must all do what we can to tackle this global problem.

What piece of advice would you give to yourself on your first day of work?

Buckle up!

What’s your favourite thing about working for Cambridge Audio?

Everyone’s genuine love of music. Our products, our brand and our people, are all made by music.

What is your favourite account you follow on social media?

David Shrigley – I just think he’s hilarious.

Which is your favourite social media platform?

Instagram.

What or who is your design icon?

My wife. She’s a very talented architect who makes wonderful spaces to be in.

Which are your favourite Cambridge Audio products?

Our all-in-one network players, Evo, are definitely up there. I use one in my home, and it’s not only a great product but also represents an exciting expansion of our product categories.

What do you think makes a great PR team?

Passion for the product.

What’s your favourite piece of coverage LRR has achieved for Cambridge Audio?

It’s a tough question, but seeing our partnership with DeLorean in Top Gear – and being called a big deal in the process – is definitely a highlight.

Do you think PR is important for business growth?

Incredibly! Our ambition to be most talked about hi-fi brand means reaching new audiences. And affiliate marketing is of increasing importance not just for publishers but also for us, being able to attribute sales directly to PR coverage.

What’s your favourite newspaper/magazine/website and why?

The Guardian. I consider it to be the most balanced newspaper (though that may be more of a reflection on me!)

How did you first hear about Little Red Rooster?

We’ve been huge fans of Clare’s work over the years, at What Hi-Fi? And elsewhere. When we heard she’d joined Little Red to bolster a burgeoning audio department, it was a great opportunity for us to work with her more closely.
