There was a time, not that long ago, when many industry insiders were somewhat sniffy about social media. Some mainstream media would patronise those who created blogs and videos, and brands wouldn’t touch social networking sites or forums for fear of hearing what their customers thought of them. Thankfully those days are now gone, and even the most cynical marketeer in the most conservative of companies is starting to recognise that social media isn’t just an opportunity for marketing and PR.
However, as with any gold rush, there are plenty of people now claiming to have all the social media answers. You probably know the type. They are hot on the theory and can name-check all the latest cool apps. What many of them aren’t, though, are social media practitioners. They are way too busy to blog and don’t have a clue about how YouTube works.
Here at Little Red
we are focused on being social media practitioners. We believe that social media is essential, but unless you put it into practice both as an individual and for the brands you represent it can backfire.
Taking all of this into account, the Little Red
team came up with a plan to create killer content for Victoria + Albert Baths. We approached 2LG Studio – the interior design studio turned influencer pairing – and worked with them to create their dream pink bathroom that would secure stand-out social media coverage.
Little Red
negotiated a package with 2LG which would offer the brand a maximum return on investment. In exchange for gifted product, 2LG were to provide V+A with a case study for LRR to sell-in and secure coverage; 3 x blog posts; editorial coverage in their regular columns in the Metro and Gay Times; a video shoot of the project; social media support; and if that wasn’t enough, they were also asked to host a talk at the V+A showroom during Design Week.

There’s a high chance you have already seen images of that millennial pink bathroom – it has proven to be the most successful seeding programme LRR has ever undertaken, achieving blanket social media coverage but also a plethora of glossy and national hits. Coverage for the bathroom appeared in Elle Decoration, Livingetc, Sunday Times Home, Metro, Harper’s Bazaar, Grazia, Cosmopolitan, Red, The Frugality, Gay Times, Grand Designs, Ideal Home and House Beautiful, amongst others – a terrific result.
