Last night a little after 6pm the tech world welcomed a very exciting new announcement from Apple – the launch of the iPad2. VERY exciting!
Best of all the new iPad will come in white as well as black – we think this is great, as we always loved the original white finish. Reminds us of our first iPod and doesn’t leave your device with greasy marks. Never seemed to scratch as much either.
It will also be a third thinner and feature two cameras – both front and rear. Perfect for using Apple’s video chat feature – Facetime. This allows you to video chat from iPad to iPhone to Mac.
The iPad gets an upgraded OS with iOS 4.3 – making it much faster. You can also have far more apps open on the device before you notice any drop in speed.
Apple also announced the launch of two new apps bringing its legendary Garageband and iMovie to the iPad. Garageband is really popular amongst musicians and allows you to compose music so now you can play the drums and put together your own songs on the iPad. Watch out Jimi Hendrix!
And for budding David Lynch’s out there iMovie will let you shoot, edit and post your video all in the one device. With the HDMI cable you will be able to connect it to your flat screen TV and watch your masterpiece at home too.
Apple has also developed a “Smart Cover” for the device which bends and wraps around the iPad, works as a typing stand, wakes iPad from sleep when removed and is held on by magnets.
2011 will definitely be the year of the iPad 2- the competition have so far to go to beat this device. If only for Apple’s app store which now has over 350,00 apps – Apple’s competitors are launching tablets with maybe a hundred. I’m sold and mine is on pre-order!
